It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself.  My name is Valérie Brisson.

I am originally from the small Northern Ontario community of Cochrane, where I first recognized my interest in Maternal and Child Health early on in life. At the age of fourteen, I was given the opportunity to attend the delivery of my youngest sibling. Little did I know at the time, how this experience would have a profound impact on my life.

In 2007, I graduated from the French stream of the Midwifery Education Program at Laurentian University in Sudbury Ontario. In addition to clinical placements in Sudbury, Ottawa and London, I was fortunate enough to complete a six week International placement in Aruba which was a significantly enriching experience for me as a student.

I later enjoyed my first years of practice working with Midwifery Services of Lambton Kent in Sarnia, Ontario. After a number of memorable years honing my skills and continuing to evolve as a practitioner, I was ready to begin the next chapter of my life and decided to step away from Midwifery to focus on raising a family.

Since then, my partner and I have welcomed three precious children.  I am forever grateful and changed by my own experiences of pregnancy and childbirth. Although I have missed practicing Midwifery, I have deeply cherished the opportunity to stay at home with them.

While on leave from Midwifery, I have continued to acquire the necessary certifications such as ESW, NRP and Neonatal Endotracheal Intubation, as well as First Aid and CPR. In 2014, I completed a short term locum with the Boreal Midwifery Practice in Timmins, Ontario.  I truly enjoyed working in a Northern community so close to my hometown. I have also enjoyed teaching prenatal classes at the M’Wikwedong Native Cultural Center in Owen Sound, Ontario since April 2016.

I am very passionate about Midwifery and strongly believe in the philosophy of Midwifery care. It is an honour to be joining Midwives Nottawasaga in January 2018. I look forward to working in this beautiful community and being part of your birth team.
